Originally located at 1105 South Caldwell St, built by JA Jones for his son in 1895, this stunner was moved on August 10, 1976 by the Clark family to its current location at 504 N Pine St.

Key Points of the 1980 Move

  1. The house was purchased for $3500 in 1976
  2. $3700 was paid to have it moved by Crouch Brothers House Moving.
  3. $65,000 was spent to completely renovate the house in 1976
  4. Before the second story was added, the house was 1770 sq feet.
  5. Today the house boasts a magnificent 2375 sq feet on two floors.
  6. Internal features such as the built in China Cabinet and plate rail in the dining room as well as the wainscoting in the hall and bedroom were restored and kept
  7. The House was featured on three occasions as part of the Fourth Ward Annual Holiday Tour of Homes.
  8. The House was one of the regular visits for tourists and conventioneers through the Charlotte Visitor Program
  9. The House upstairs "attic: was converted to more usable space which increased the square footage of the original house
  10. The current owner was one of the original pioneers of Fourth Ward serving in various capacities in the decision making direction of this first Charlotte Historic District

Upper Floor
  1. Upstairs the Clarks had a greenhouse constructed complete with jalousie windows, potting sink and heater.
  2. There is a full bathroom and a separate room that was used as an exercise/sitting room.
Gardens
  1. The backyard was designed by famous landscape architect William Gillbert. It cost nearly $20,000 to complete.
  2. This masterpiece is complete with a fully enclosed brick courtyard five individual bricked flower beds, a gazebo, fountain, lighting, and outdoor speakers. This amazing spectacle was featured in the Mint Museum spring home and garden tour of 1978. The gardens, in their prime, were used to host local weddings and parties.
